Monarch Waystations

Create, Conserve & Protect Monarch Habitats

Every year, hundreds of millions of monarch butterflies migrate from the United States and Canada to Mexico for the winter. Throughout the range of their migration, the monarchs face habitat loss of their wintering and breeding grounds.

Monarch waystations provide a place for monarchs to rest as well as necessary resources for them to produce successive generations and sustain their migration. Henry Vilas Zoo has a Monarch waystation on the hill behind the Aviary.
