We are excited to embark on a new journey of bringing a herd of giraffes back to Henry Vilas Zoo in a new, huge, state-of-the-art giraffe pavilion. But we need your help with the last stretch of funding!
We’ve already secured the lion’s share of what we need (over $19 million, thank you so much to previous donors!), but we need a bit more to reach our goals.

Located on the west end of the Henry Vilas Zoo, the Edge of Africa: Giraffe will incorporate stunning views of Lake Wingra, highlighting one of Madison’s most iconic parks.

Giraffes have been a keystone species at Henry Vilas Zoo for decades. This new habitat will give guests unprecedented access to our herd and allow visitors to see how our zookeepers and veterinarians care for our animals year-round.
The new environment will more than triple the amount of indoor space for our giraffes and provide more than double the amount of outdoor space.

What’s Ahead for Edge of Africa: Giraffe! When completed, the habitat will serve as the year-round home to the giraffes and will be the zoo’s largest expansion ever. We haven’t taken on a project nearly this big since our award-winning Arctic Passage.
