Role Summary

The Gardening Work Group takes special care of the browse, sensory and ornamental gardens throughout the zoo. Working under the guidance and supervision of the HVZ Horticulturist, the group weeds, mulches, rakes, and lightly landscapes. This is an excellent role for those just starting their gardening journey, and/or for those looking to spend their mornings with fellow gardening enthusiasts.

Responsibilities

  • Weed, mulch, plant, harvest browse, and water as assigned by the HVZ Horticulturalist
  • Learn to identify over 100 native species of plants and weeds
  • Lend an artistic eye throughout the season
  • Work with a team of other gardening enthusiasts to beautify the zoo
  • Maintain calm and optimism through even the driest dry spell
