Henry Vilas Zoo is temporarily closing to the public effective March 14, 2020. We are following the recommendations of our state and county health and government officials to help slow the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in our community. We will remain closed until further notice as we learn more about the impacts of the coronavirus.

Critical operations staff, which includes animal care teams, will continue to work at the zoo to provide care to our animals and infrastructure. All other employees will work from home.

Our animals are healthy and doing great! Our amazing animal care team will continue to provide world class care for the animals here at Henry Vilas Zoo. We currently have a surplus of essential food and medical supplies for our animals, and we will continue to proactively prepare for contingencies and monitor supply chains.

Our keepers will also continue to ensure that our animals have access to both their indoor and outdoor areas and are receiving animal enrichment every day. The care of our animals is the heart of our mission and we appreciate your support and understanding as we navigate this situation.

All of our camps and programs through April 3, 2020 have been canceled. All registered participants have been emailed with more information. If you have any questions about education programs, please email
